Which of the following functions of DNA is necessary for evolution to occur?

A.Translation

B. Transcription

C. Mutation

D. Replication

Homework Answers

Answer #1

In evolution, new traits or new variations arise in an organism. Later these variations or traits are selected by nature and the better suited organism is chosen and it proliferates.

According to Darwin's theory or evolution, mutations are the source of variations in organisms. Mutations changes the DNA sequences of an organism which provides a new trait to organism. The new trait can be beneficial to the organism and make it better suited for the environment or can be harmful for the organism. The beneficial mutations are chosen, preserved and proliferated.

So, correct answer is (c) Mutation
