a. sensation
b. support
c. contraction
d. covering surfaces

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Epithelial cells are involved in absorption (small intestine), secretion (glands), protection (skin), transcellular transport (mucous membranes) and sensing. Many epithelial cells cover surfaces of organs. Hence, its major function is covering surfaces.

Epithelium does not have supportive function normally. Instead it protects tissues. Muscles are involved in contraction.May epithelial cells have a sensory function, although it is not a major function.

Right choice: d. covering surfaces.
