primary targets for antibiotic action at bacterial cell includes what?
1-
2-
3-
There are three primary targets of actions of antibiotics against bacteria -
1. The cell wall or cell membrane - Example penicillin - these antibiotics preserve the the synthesis of cell wall of bacteria and prevents the cross linking of the peptidoglycans.
2. The Nucleic acid inhibitors - example Rifamycins - these antibiotics inhibits the activity of DNA or RNA synthesis machinery. Thus the Nucleic acids can not be synthesised and the bacteria can not populate. Example - rifamycins inhibits the RNA polymerase and inhibits the formation of RNA from DNA.
3. The protein synthesis inhibitors - example tetracycline - these antibiotics inhibits the protein synthesis machinery of bacteria thus inhibiting their formation - tetracycline binds with 30S subunit and inhibits binding of aminoacul tRNA , thus inhibits the initiation process.
