Haemophillus influenzae causes haemophilus pneumonia and meningitis in old age pateints above the age of 65 years. There are two strains of heamophilus influenzae encapsulated also called as typeable and non-encapsulated also called as non-typeable. They are gram negative cocobacilli. The encapsulated or typeable haemophilus influenzae causes most of the cases of pneumonia in the elderly patients.
