Explaination: Paroxysmal stage starts from second week of infection upto ten weeks. This stage faces the most severe condition in whooping cough disease. Rapid cough due to accumulation of thick mucus ,post-tissue emesis, cyanosis, lymphocytosis, leucocytosis with extreme weight loss occur in this stage and can lead to infant death.

Catarrhal is the initial stage where symptoms are mild and convalescent stage after Paroxysmal stage is the recovering stage where cough lessens and symptoms start relieving.
