Explain the mechanism of how a single nucleotide base change in a gene can lead to premature termination of translation of the mRNA from that gene.

This type mutation causing a single nucleotide change to prematurely stops the translation and results in a truncated protien is called as non-sense mutation.

A nonsense mutation is the substitution of a single base pair that leads to the appearance of a stop codon where previously there was a codon specifying an amino acid. The mutation results in coding for stop codon which interupts the translation and ends in a truncated protien. (Image source:NIH)
