How is the nervous system of nematodes organized? Where in their body are their neural cords located?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

The nematode nervous system is organized into ganglia (neuronal cell bodies) which are present in the anterior portion of the nematode's body. From between the ganglions in the anterior region, a nerve ring originates which extends as two longitudnal nerve chords, one located dorsally and the other located ventrally along the length of the body of the nematode. These two chords run beneath the surface of the epithelium. From these two nerve chords, lateral nerves may originate along with the circumferential commissures.
