The lungs deliver a regular supply of oxygen to the blood, which is in turn circulated to most of the cells of the body. At the same, time oxygen is consumed during aerobic cellular respiration within these cells. This implies that ________.

oxygen requires active transport to enter most cells
the rate of oxygen diffusion is independent of concentration
oxygen will passively diffuse into the cells
the concentration of oxygen is higher inside of the cell relative to outside of the cell

Answer #1

The lungs deliver a regular supply of oxygen to the blood, which is in turn circulated to most of the cells of the body. At the same, time oxygen is consumed during aerobic cellular respiration within these cells. This implies that: oxygen will passively diffuse into the cells (Option C)

Because, it is considered that substances that can easilydiffuse through the lipid bilayer of thecell membrane, i.e. gasesoxygen (O2) and CO2. O2 generally diffuses into cells because it is more concentrated outside of them, and CO2 typically diffuses out of cells because it is more concentrated inside of them. As oxygen-rich blood travels by a cell the oxygen diffuses through the cell membrane to the area of lower concentration inside the cell. It can do this easily because the oxygen molecule is very small and has no charge or polarity. The oxygen is used up rapidly by mitochondria.

The Red blood cells carry oxygen from the lungs to the tissues of the body and carry carbon dioxide from the tissues of the body to the lungs. Each red blood cell contains millions of hemoglobin proteins that bind to oxygen and carbon dioxide allowing for transport. (isotonic blood), the morphology of red blood cells can be described as slightly ovoid, biconcave disks. When severe dehydration occurs, blood becomes hypertonic: water exits red blood cells and enters into the blood...
