Both smell and taste uses chemical receptors. The chemoreception for taste occurs via presence of taste buds within mouth.They are activated when they receive specific stimulus (salty, sweet, bitter, sour). These taste buds are located on tongue. They signal then to brain.
In addition to taste receptors, there are receptors within nose that work in coordination with taste receptors. Both these together form a flavour.
