Nystatin is an anti-microbial agent, specifically an antifungal by nature which is obtained from bacteria Streptomyces nouresei. Chemically, nystatin disintegrates the plasma membrane/cell membrane of the microbes thus killing them and preventing infection.

This anti-fungal agent is used in variety of methods, such as

  1. topical application on skin,
  2. as a sterilized liquid in tissue-culture techniques,
  3. for sterilization of clinical equipments,
  4. to treat rashes and skin allergy etc.
