can haploid organisms reproduce using meiosis? explain your answer
Q. Can haploid organism reproduce using meiosis?
Answer- Yes
Explanation-Most common type of reproduction in algae
In this case the organism is having haploid (n) set of
chromosomes ,thus the gametes produced by mitosis will be haploid
i.e. n.
Then by the process of fertilisation , the gametes will fuse
together and the diploid (2n) condition will occur.
But the organism is haploid, the polarity must be restored to n. So
the 2n zygote undergoes meiosis to restore the polarity i.e.
haploid (n) organism.
This process is common to chlorphyceae.
