Ergonomic injuries are prevalent in the healthcare industry due to the nature of the work required as illustrated in our lesson with Mr. Bach, a certified nurse assistant who injured his back while attempting to assist a resident from the floor to the bed. In recent years, many facilities have implemented policies, purchased equipment, and provided training to address ergonomic injuries. However, WMSDs, specifically back injuries, are still pretty commonplace within the industry. Using the example of Mr. Bach from our unit lesson, do you believe healthcare workers recognize the risks of moving and lifting patients? Why, or why not?
I really think that they do not recognise the risk they take when lifting patients. I have this thought because they are never taught the downside of being a health care worker only the positive side and how to do their job. As such cases are emerging the hospitals and government needs to take action on providing assisted machines to help them and also educate them on the injuries they may take while doing their job and how to manage them. This has been mentioned that it has started but it needs to be done on a larger scale.
Hope this helps a little, Good luck!!!
