special staining technique involves special stains which refer to histological and empirical staining techniques.special staining techniques are used for a single purpose.They have a vast variety of dyes with a limited staining range.they indicate certain features of the target substance, (like what type of tissue and the distribution of that tissue in the target individual).They identify the target substance based on their chemical character(DNA, RNA, lipid etc.), pathological characters (bacteria, fungi) etc.Example of some special stains is 'gram'(differentiates between gram +ve and gram -ve), iron(in bone marrow biopsies, trichrome(differentiating collage and muscle in the target specimen).
