Explain the bioenergetic consequences of having a defective NADH dehydrogenase complex and describe a potential strategy to overcome such a defect
can u tell me please its 7 marks
A person is born with mutation that causes their cells
to produce a defective NADH dehydrogenase
complex ( this is one )
Solution: NADH dehydrogenase is an enzyme that oxidises NADH to NAD+ during cellular respiration. This enzyne found on mitochondrial inner membrane helps convert the NADH to NAD+, releasing 2 electrons and also coupling the energy for the movemet of 4 protons across the inner membrane from natrix to the intermembrane space for the generation of proton motive force. The elctrons released flow through different complexes and carriers to reach the terminal electron acceptor oxygen. Defects in NADH dehydrogenase enzymes reduces the oxidation od NADH. This affects fhe cellular respiration and ultimately the synthesis of ATP.
