An organelle or cell structure in
which a protein may be found before being secreted from the
cell.
- Rough endoplasmic
reticulum: rough endoplasmic reticulum has organelles That
are responsible in manufacturing of proteins and thus it gives a
rough appearance to the organelle. The site of binding at the
ribosome, that is present on the RER, are translocons. Though,
ribosomes do not form a stable part of the structure of this
organelle, as these would constantly be bound to the membrane and
would be released from the membrane. The ribosome would only bind
to the RER after a specific complex, the protein nucleic acid,
would be formed from the cytosol. As the ribosome would begin to
translate the mRNA, this complex would be formed, that is destined
towards the secreting pathway.
