Q 6 (a) Barr body is the inactive X chromosome in female somatic cell. It is named after Murray Barr who discovered it.

(b)- Becuase females have two copies of X chromosome and only one can be active. Therefore some kind of adjustment is needed between these two X chromosome to carry out its function properly and this is achieved by X-chromosome inactivation. A female is a mosaic because consist of mixture of two different kind of cell each with different functional chromosomes. Because of X-chromosome inactivation females are mosaics.
