Under what conditions is a sporulation initiated by endospore-forming bacteria?

A) when an organism is placed in a hypertonic solution

B) when the organism is exposed to sunlight

C) when the organism is rehydrated in water

D) when nutrients are depleted or conditions become adverse

E) C & D

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Option D

Endospore is a thick walled resistance spore formed by bacteria under unfavourable conditions like lack of sunlight, water, nutrients.

Endopspores are mainly formed by the bacteria belonging to Bacillus and Clostridium.

They can be terminal in position or central in position.

The process of formation of endospores is called as sporulation.

Endospores are metabolically inactive and are said to be in dormant condition.

First option is incorrect because if a bacterial cell is placed in hypertonic solution, then it will shrink amd die.

Second and third options are incorrect because in the presence of sunlight and water endospores will not be formed.
