Answer- Conjugation is the process by which one bacterium transfers genetic material to another through direct contact. During conjugation one bacterium serves as a donor of the genetic material, and the other serves as a recipient. The donor bacterium carries a DNA sequence called as fertility factor.
Bacterial conjugation initiated by one cell called donor cell with the second cell called recipient cell in two ways :-
1 In one method donor cell latches onto the recipient with its pilus and pulls the two cells together so that they touch. So lassoing goes smoothly.
2 In second method the donor cell constructs a this structure between the cells called the conjugation bridge to share DNA.
