How many phosphate groups from ATP molecules are used to create the 6 RuBP molecules in the last step of the Calvin Cycle?
RuBP is ribulose bisphosphate. Every molecule contains 2 phosphate. S,o in total 2 × 6 = 12 phosphate groups are required.
One molecule of ATP donates 1 phosphate group.
So, we need 1 × 12 = 12 ATP molecules.
Calvin cycle is a process which takes place in stroma. It is a light independent reaction. But it is dependent upon the product of light reaction for the fixation of atmospheric carbon dioxide into glucose. It results in the formation of triose phosphate which enters cytosol and is used for the synthesis of glucose.
