The total leukocyte levels may resemble those of leukemia(blood cancer). The bacteria number declines but is characterised by the cough before the patient returns to normal.

The bacteria at the end reach the lungs which makes it worse, they remain adhered to the ciliated epithelium.

Pertussis, a respiratory illness is commonly known as whooping cough, is a very contagious disease caused by a type of bacteria called Bordetella pertussis. These bacteria attach to the cilia (tiny, hair-like extensions) that line part of the upper respiratory system. Whooping cough (pertussis) is a highly contagious respiratory tract infection.
