  1. Typical bacterial photosynthesis takes place using a single photosystem, but cyanobacterial photosynthesis uses two photosystems.

(a) What is the process of bacterial photosynthesis called

(b) What does bacterial photosynthesis generate

(c) How is NADPH (reducing power) generated in bacterial photosynthesis

(d) What is generated in cyanobacterial photosynthesis?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

1.

A. The typical bacterial photosynthesis is Anoxygenic proces. The proces does not liberate O2. It liberates other substances based on the reducing power it gets from. So it is called Anoxygenic photosynthesis.

B. The purple bacteria and green sulphur bacteria generate Sulphur instead of O2. This is because, the purple bacteria gets its reducing power from H2S.

C. In purple bacteriaand green sulphur bacteria, the reducing power is obtained from H2S instead of water. So the H+ ions come from H2S, liberating S in to the atmosphere.

D. Cyanobacteria use H2O as the source of reducing power. They perform Oxygenic photosynthesis as the higher plants. So cyanobacteria generate sugars and also O2 gas .

The volume of air taken in during a typical breath is 0.47 L. The inhaled air is heated to 37∘C (the internal body temperature) as it enters the lungs. Because air is about 80% nitrogen, N2, model it as an ideal gas. Suppose that the outside air is at room temperature (17.0∘C) and that a person takes two breaths every 3.0 s. Assume that the pressure does not change during the process. How many joules of heat Q1does it take...

The same reaction takes place in two different vessels, which are initially at atmospheric pressure (1 atm). Suppose you need to control the speed of a motor that takes 1200W at full power. This is typical of a big domestic vacuum-cleaner or a washing-machine motor, and is a little more power than a single-bar electric fire uses. First, you try the obvious method: a variable resistor in series, and no other complications. If you adjust the resistor to have a very high value so little current passes, this will make the motor run very slowly or stop....
