Determine whether the following statement is true or false and then explain why in one or two sentences.

The summative current that crosses the entire cell membrane provides information about the degree to which the individual channels are open at that moment.

Homework Answers

Answer #1

This statement is False.

The summative current that crosses the entire cell membrane doesn't provide the information about the degree of which the individual channels are open at that moment. Because, individual Voltage gated channels open with All or none principle. The time of opening and closing of these channels is random but they always show large conductance when open. Therefore, the summative current crossing the cell membrane rather indicates the total number of channels which are open at that time in that membrane.
