SHOW YOUR WORK!!

  1. In zinnia plants, purple flowers plants X blue flowering plants yield 54 purple and 62 blue offspring.

However crossing blue flowering plants X blue flowering plants yield ONLY blue flowering plants.

a)What does this tell you about the genotypes of the blue and purple flowered plants?

b)Which of the alleles is dominant?

  1. Mice can have normal tails or ‘bent’ tails. “Bent” is the dominant x- linked allele (B). The normal allele (b) is recessive.

A normal-tailed female is mated to a bent-tailed male.

What are the genotypes AND phenotypes of their 3 male and 5 female offspring?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

1.

Blue × purple = purple and blue progenies

Blue × blue = blue progenies only

A. For the first case, blue is bb and purple is Bb.

For the second case, both the parents will be bb.

B. Blue is recessive over purple. B is dominant over b. Thats why, all the progenies in second case are blue.

2.

Bent = XBXB, XBXb, XBY

Normal = XbXb, XbY

XbXb × XBY

Gametes XB Y
Xb XBXb bent tailed female XbY normal tailed male

All the progenies will have phenotype and genotype given in the table.

Please rate high.

A species of plant is discovered in which individual plants produce either white or purple flowers. True breeding plants that have short stems with white flowers are crossed with true breeding plants that have tall stems and purple flowers. The resulting offspring all have tall stems with purple flowers. When one of these tall, purple-flowered offspring is crossed with a short, white-flowered plant, plants with the following characteristics were obtained in equal proportions. White flowers on tall stems Purple flowers...

Part A)i n plants, purple flower color is dominant to white flowers color. You crossed a white flowering plant with a purple flowering plant. Out of 236 plants in the offspring, 114 had white flowers and the other 122 had purple flowers. What were the genotypes of the parent plants? A. One plant was heterozygous white and the other heterozygous purple B. Both plants are homozygous C.Both plants are heterozygous D. One plant was homozygous white and the other heterozygous...

In a particular plant, a recessive allele is associated with white flowers (w). The dominant allele (W) results in purple flowers. Two plants are crossed. The offspring are made up of 175 plants with purple flowers and 161 plants with white flowers. Using the allele symbols shown above, the genotypes of the two parents are Ww x ww. This mating is an example of a/an ?

Purple flowers (P) are completely dominant over white flowers (p) in pea plants. A plant that is heterozygous for purple flowers (male) is crossed with another plant that has white flowers (female). Use a Punnett square to determine the expected genotypic and phenotypic ratios for the offspring. What is the purple pea plant's genotype? What is the white pea plant's genotype? What are the purple pea plant's gametes? What are the white pea plant's gametes? What is the expected genotypic...

In mice, a genetic model organism, Harlequin phenotype is due to an X-linked allele that is recessive to the normal allele for coat color. A homozygous normal female is crossed with a Harlequin male. The F1 are intercrossed to produce F2. Give the genotypes and phenotypes, along with the expected proportions, of the F1 and F2 progeny.

You are doing a genetics experiment with fruit flies. In your first cross, you cross two true-breeding flies (P generation). The female parent is brown and wingless and the male parent is black with normal wings. All of the flies in the F1 generation are brown and have normal wings. In the following questions, please indicate the alleles associated with dominant phenotypes by uppercase letters and alleles associated with recessive phenotypes by lowercase letters. Assume the genes are not found...

Please show WORK! In some horses, coat color is autosomal and exhibits incomplete dominance, with palamino coloration intermediate to both chestnut and cremello coloration. Horses can also exhibit an immunodeficiency syndrome inherited as an X-linked recessive allele. You are a horse breeder, and cross a palamino female carrier for immunodeficiency syndrome with a normal, cremello male. 1. Use appropriate genetic notation to describe genotypes of the cross. 2. If you conducted this cross many times, what would be the expected...
