Are birds evolved from small bipedal dinosaurs?

Are birds evolved from small bipedal dinosaurs?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Deinonychus was a theropod, one of a group of bipedal, carnivorous dinosaurs that also included Tyrannosaurus rex.
Dinosaurs evolved bird-like characteristics long before the appearance of Archaeopteryx.
Archaeopteryx is the Late Jurassic fossil usually thought to be the earliest bird.
The gradual evolutionary change might have started about 160 million years ago, wherein from fast-running, ground-dwelling bipedal theropods to small, winged flying birds were evolved.

During the course of this evolution, the body size of some theropod groups gradually decreased. This, together with many other changes to the skeleton, ultimately led to the appearance of birds.

Birds are the last living relatives of the dinosaurs. We have discussed several lines of data that suggest this (both fossilized and experimental). Design an experiment of your own to test this hypothesis using the scientific method, starting with your question, to your hypothesis, through your experimental design, through what data you would collect and compare to reach your conclusion.

In the 2018 short film For the Birds, there are some small birds on a wire who are fed up with a larger bird who is also on the wire. At its greatest stretch, the center of the wire is displaced by about 7.3 ? from equilibrium. When the large bird involuntarily lets go of the wire, the wire rebounds like a spring would. After a time of 0.54 ???, the wire has returned to its lowest point again (meaning...

Question 37 The small insectivorous birds Creepers and Nuthatches both feed on the trunks of trees of the same species in the same mixed conifer/broadleaf forests, but one hunts exclusively moving up the trunk and the other moving down the trunk. Which of the following are true or false 1) Birds evolved wings before insects did. 2) Once ancient molluscs (Phylum Mollusca) had achieved a domed shell, they differentiated into different Classes when selection favored modification of the shell by either dividing the shell horizontally down the length of the body (Class Polyplacophora = “chitons”), longitudinally (into two equal halves) down the length of the body (Class Bivalvia = “clams”), or by extending the length (or “height”) of the domed shell...

You are studying two isolated populations of birds living on two different islands. In particular, you are interested in studying two different traits in these birds: beak size and feather color. Beak size is determined by a single gene exhibiting incomplete dominance. Birds with 2 copies of the A allele (genotype AA) have large beaks, birds with 1 copy of the A allele (genotype Aa) have medium beaks, and birds with no copies of the A allele (genotype aa) have...

Owls eat rats, mice, shrews, and small birds. Assume that, over a period of time, an owl consumes 6000 J of animal material. The owl loses 2630 J in feces and owl pellets and used 3000 J for cellular respiration. What is the production efficiency of this owl? Answer the question with one decimal place.
