Describe the main difference between the genome replication step during the life cycle of an RNA virus like influenza and a retrovirus like HIV, as both viruses are RNA viruses.
Retro virus uses reverse transcriptase enzyme for making cDNA from the RNA. While there is no such enzyme used in influenza virus.
After making of cDNA , they get integrate into host genome by using integrase enzyme . No such enzyme us used in genome replication in influenza virus.
Now the virus use host machinery to make viral RNA copies.
In influenza virus , genome is negative sense RNA. So for replication and producing viral proteins ,they need to convert it into positive sense RNA . All this doesnot occur in retro virus.
After positive sense RNA is made , replication of negative sense RNA occurs.
