Meninges are the membranes surrounding the brain and spinal cord. The acute inflammation of these membranes by viruses or bacteria can be described as the Meningitis.

Symptoms:- The early symptoms of Meningitis are usually

• fever
• headache with nausea or vomitings. There may be flu-like symptoms if a person catches meningitis due to viruses.

Later on, more symptoms starts to appear such as,

• cold hands and feet,
• pain in limbs
• stiff neck,
• lack of consciousness,
• confused state of mind,
• irritation from bright light and loud noise,
• Poor appetite and thirst
• Rashes on skin
• Seizures

In infants, symptoms may be little different:

• Stop feeding or poor feeding
• Increased irritability or excessive sleeping
• Constant crying
• Soft spot on top of head can be seen slightly bulged
• High fever
• Show less activity

However, out of all these symptoms Headache, fever and stiffed neck are most common symptoms
