Answer #1

Viruses are the entities which lie on the border line of living and non-living things. As per the question, the novel microbe was found to have two types of nucleic acids- DNA as well as RNA, it means that the microbe can not be a virus. it is because Viruses are the acellular nucleoprotein entities having a protein capsid and only one type of nucleic acid either DNA or RNA.No virus has been found so far with bothe types of nucleic acids.

You discover a novel virus A in bats. You would like to isolate the virus, sequence it, and grow it up in the lab so that diagnostic assays may be developed, and vaccines can be generated. In order to grow up the virus, you need permissive cells. What is the first piece of information you will need before you begin identifying permissive cells to grow virus A in the lab? Sequencing information reveals that the virus is a variant of...

Your laboratory has just gained the license to allow you to research, and commercialize the results for, a novel Protein 18(p18). Because there is very little known about this protein, you need to characterize the protein. You are provided with: the human cDNA corresponding to the protein, a Chinese Hamster Ovary (CHO) cell line expressing the cDNA for the p18, and the amino acid sequence (using the one-letter code) of the p18. Shown following is the first 30 amino acid...

You are working in an optical research laboratory. One of your projects involves the use of a double slit through which you pass blue laser light of wavelength 453 nm. Unfortunately, because of budget cuts, there are a lot of researchers in the same room, with lots of equipment stuffed in the room, and, in particular, lots of laser beams flying around the room. One day, you find that a second visible (400 nm to 700 nm) laser beam of...

On your first day working in a laboratory, you are told to make up 1 Liter of a 0.5 Molar Tris solution with a pH of 7.4. You measure out the appropriate amount of Tris base and dissolve it in water. You then measure the pH and find out that it has an initial pH of 11. You add some concentrated HCl, and the pH begins to drop. However, as you approach the target pH, you find that you need...
