Villi , micro villi and pilcae circulares are the structural modifications of small intestine which enhances digestive process. About 80% of digestion take place in small intestine. There are series of folds called pilcae as present in the wall of small intestine to increase the surface for maximum absorption. The wall of small intestine contains villi which are present in the innermost layer known as mucosa , absorbed nutrients are carrried by the core of capillary network of villi. Micro villi which look like a fuzzy and hence called brush border of cells of villi , also enhances the capacity for absorption.
