. Several years after the data in the previous problem was collected, Dr. Smith again collected western whiptail lizards from both the eastern and western populations relative to the Organ mountains. The years between the two collection years had been extremely dry with little available prey and a high degree of lizard predation. He wondered if an inbreeding had occurred in either population due to a decrease in size. Once again, he collected blood samples from individuals in both populations. He analyzed the samples and determined the alleles of the gene for the enzyme α-glycerol-phosphate dehydrogenase (α-GPD). Based upon the number of individuals below, he would like you to calculate the allele and genotypic frequencies of both populations and determine if both populations are in Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium. Also please determine if inbreeding has occurred relative to genotypic frequencies at the previous observation. If you believe that inbreeding has occurred, determine the degree of inbreeding. Please show him all of your work. Please minimize rounding. (12 points)

Dr. Jack Smith of the Fisheries and Wildlife Department at NMSU has hired you to analyze some data that was collected several years and he has not had time to do it himself. He knows that you are enrolled in GENE 320 and have a basic understanding of population genetics. He had done some research on two separate populations of western whiptail lizards. Population 1 was found on the western side of the Organ mountains while population 2 was located...

5. Dr. Smith has another data set that he would like you to analyze and interpret. Once he had a graduate student researching western whiptails in the eastern population. His student was quite adept at finding the nests of females in the population. His student collected blood samples from female individuals after they had laid their eggs. He wanted to know if the genotype at the 6-phosphogluconate dehydrogenase (6PGD) locus had any relationship with adaptability to the local environmental. He...

1.A population of alpacas all have an identical fur length phenotype. During a particularly cold winter, longer fur would be beneficial as it would provide them with greater insulation. Select the correct answer given this information. A. the alpacas will evolve by natural selection as longer hair would be favorable in their environment. B. a mutation for longer fur will likely develop in this population. c. alpacas will longer fur will likely migrate into this population as they have a...
