Meiotic recombination occurs during the phase of meiosis called __________________________.

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Meiotic recombination occurs during the phase of meiosis called Pachytene stage of Prophase I.

Meiosis is divided in 2 stages- Meiosis I and Meiosis II.

Meiosis I has stages- Prophase I, Metaphase I, Anaphase I and Telophase I

Meiosis II has stages- Prophase II, Metaphase II, Anaphase II and Telophase II.

Prophase I is further divided into Leptotene, Zygotene, Pachytene, Diplotene and Dikinesis

During pachytene, crossing over occurs between non-sister chromatids of the homologous chromosomes. This cross over results in recombination.
