Eukaryotes have three different types of RNA pol. What are these three types, where are they active. What type of RNA do they make?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

RNA pol are abbreviation for RNA polymerase. They are also abrravated as RNAP.

Eukaryotic cells has 3 different types of RNA pol. They are -

  • RNA polymerase I
  • RNA polymerase II
  • RNA polymerase III

The RNA pol are active at their location. RNA polymerase I is located in Nucleolus and RNA ploymerase II AND III is present in nucleus. These are active within their located site. Similarly, three main RNA's are active respectively - mRNA in nucleus ; tRNA in cytoplasm nd rRNA in ribosome.

Different RNA polymerase are responsible for transcipting different types of RNA. They transcripts as follows -

  • RNA polymerase I transcribes Pre-rRNA (for 18, 5 , 8 and  28S rRNAs) genes.
  • RNA polymerase II transcribes Pre-mRNA, miRNA, snRNA, and snoRNA genes, and
  • RNA polymerase III transcribes Pre- tRNA and 5S rRNA genes.

What is a major difference between eukaryotic DNA replication and prokaryotic DNA replication? a. DNA pol III of eukaryotes has both exonuclease activities while prokaryotic DNA pol III does not. b. There are many more types of prokaryotic DNA polymerases. c. Prokaryotic replication does not require a primer. d. Prokaryotic chromosomes are circular and so have no telomeres; eukaryotic chromosomes have telomeric replication.
