Answer #1

Answer :

Lactobacillus lactis previously known as Streptococcus lactis is a gram positive bacterium used extensively in dairy industry for production of butter milk and cheese. At the same time it is the first genetically modified to be used alive for treatment of disease in humans.

The distinguishing confirmatory tests for Lactobacillus lactis will include:

  1. Growth at 40oC but not at 45oC
  2. Growth in presence of 4% NaCl but fails to grow at 6.5 % concentration
  3. Growth at alkaline pH of 9.2 but not at 9.6

Add to these

  • Complete and rapid litmus reduction
  • Ammonia produced from Arginine.
