Answer #1

d- all of the above.

The act of inserting a gene of interest in the circular plasmid of bacteria and letting the bacteria produce desired protein. This is known as DNA cloning. This is usually done to produce large amount of desired product we require for any particular purpose. We have produced human insulin, growth hormones and many antibiotics by this method of DNa cloning. Insulin gene is expressed in bacteria to produce insulin by bacteria.Same goes with growth hormone and antibiotics. This type of synthesis is also known as recombinant DNA synthesis.

The human gene for a protein hormone has been isolated. Scientists want to introduce this gene into a bacterial host, modifying the bacteria so that it can be used to produce this hormone. After successfully introducing the gene on a plasmid, the bacteria produced the protein hormone, but the protein was defective, longer than normal, with intervening stretches of amino acids not found in the native protein. What is the most likely explanation? A. The bacteria can’t transcribe the human...

1) You have cloned the human Insulin (Ins) gene into the pDrive plasmid, and transformed bacteria using (0.25 ug) of this pDrive/Ins (as per the protocol described in this lab). Using the information below, calculate the number of molecules of Insulin that have been cloned into your entire culture after 4 hours of growth after incubation. a. The transformation efficiency of this reaction is 105 colonies/ µg intact pDrive/Ins plasmid. b. pDrive plasmid has a copy number of 100 molecules...

Which of the following is NOT true of the Drosophila bicoid gene? The bicoid gene encodes an mRNA that is deposited into the egg by the mother and is localized in one end of the egg. The bicoid mRNA is translated to Bicoid protein after the egg is fertilized. The bicoid gene encodes a protein that specifies the anterior end of the embryo. The bicoid gene is considered to be a cytoplasmic polarity gene. none of the above (i.e. all...
