Which of the following has some risk when a person's immune system is weakened?

a:Live virus vaccines

b:Killed (inactivated) vaccines

c:Toxoid vaccines

d:Biosynthetic vaccines

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Option a) Live virus vaccines....................is the right answer.

Reason : In case of a person with weak immune system, live vaccines can sometimes be fatal. Because, as these type of vaccines are not totally compromised in relation to their pathogenic potential, can still cause the disease under suitable condition. On the other hand, killed, toxoid and biosynthetic vaccines loss their pathogenicity inspite of having immunogenic potential, so are used in persons with weak immune system.

A host organism needs time, often days, to mount an immune response against a new antigen, but memory cells permit a rapid response to pathogens previously encountered. A vaccine to protect against a particular viral infection often consists of weakened or killed virus or isolated proteins from a viral protein coat. When injected into a person, the vaccine generally does not cause an infection and illness, but it effectively teaches the immune system what the viral particles look like, stimulating...

Vaccines act by offering attenuated forms of pathogens to be recognized by the host immune system. Once exposed, the immune system develops specific defenses (acquired response) against that pathogen, so that in the future, vaccinated individuals that get into contact with the true pathogen will already possess the necessary immune response to fight off the disease. In the case of viruses, the attenuated version of the pathogen is usually composed of viral proteins without its genetic material (in other words,...
