Intestinal immunity is a relatively new term in relation to events and processes that precede human biology. Antigens need to be sampled, processed, and presented in such a way that enables the destruction of pathogens and tolerance of nonpathogens.

Systemic immunity acquired resistance provides enhanced, long-lasting systemic immunity to secondary infection by a range of biotrophic, hemibiotrophic and necrotrophic pathogens that have diverse modes of infection.
