Galactose is monosaccharide sugar. It is composed of Carbon, Hydrogen and Oxygen atoms. It is an aldohexose sugar : as it has 6 carbon atoms and an aldehyde group. It is less sweeter and stable than glucose. Although the molecular formula is same as Glucose i.e. C6H12O6. The positioning of the -OH group at the 4th carbon atom is different. Galactose can exist either as 1. Open chain form or 2. Cyclic form.
