U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) governs the labeling of food. Two important parts of food labels are ingredients and nutrition facts.
The nutrition facts segment shall include five core nutrients (calories, amount of fat, sodium, carbohydrates, and protein), vitamins and minerals, the percent of daily value of each and serving size. Food manufacturers must list all ingredients present in the food product in the descending order of weight, from the heaviest to the lightest ingredient
Other parts of Food Packaging Label include a statement of identity, the product’s net weight, manufacturer’s address, allergens and health claims and packing and expiry dates.
