Why does a succinate molecule from the citric acid cycle produce less ATP through the electron transport chain than an NADH molecule from the citric acid cycle?
ANSWER -
WELL, the fadh produces less ATP than NADH because fadh enters the cycle in late phase while the nadh enters the cycle in the early phase. as we know, that electron transport chain is assembled into carrier molecules iinto tree protein complexes, and the passage of electronn through each complex generates energy to produce atp. thus , as mentioned earlier, the fadh complex enters in thelate phase and thus does not pass through all the electron transport chain proteins results into formation of less atp, while nadh as entered earlier, produces more atp.
