Using your knowledge of ohotosynthesis and cellualar repiration explain why radish seeds grown without sublight lose weight and what happens to that weight?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

When when the raddish seeds are grown in absence of Sunlight, then the photosynthesis process is not found in the raddish seeds. Hence there is not found the synthesis of sugar molecules. But there is found respiration process. Because the respiration is independent of sunlight. Respiration leads to break down sugar molecules into carbon dioxide for producing energy.

Hence the weight of the raddish seeds are decreased due to decrease in sugar molecule by respiration and absence of photosynthesis.

Three groups of 100 identical radish seeds are germinated under different conditions. Group A is germinated with constant light and moisture, and produces tall straight seedlings with two green leaves. Group B is germinated with constant moisture in complete darkness, and produces long, floppy seedlings with two yellow leaves. Group C is germinated without light or moisture, and as a result the seeds never produce seedlings. When you measure the dry weights (all liquid water removed) at the end of...
