Explain why each of these is important in transcription in prokaryotes and/or eukaryotes.

5’ cap

Shine Delgarno sequence

f-met tRNA

A site

Peptidyl transferase

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Cap - protects mRNA from degradation by cytoplasmic exonucleases, provides stability to it, helps mRNA to participate in translation

Shine Dalgarno sequence - sequence on mRNA whete ribosome binds so, that it can scan mRNA for start codon

f-met-tRNA - initiator tRNA carrying formylated methionine in prokaryotes

A site - amino acyl site on ribosome where tRNA carrying a new amino acid binds so that the amino acid can be added to the peptide chain

Peptidyl transferase - enzyme responsible for the formation of peptide bond between amino acids in the peptide chain

Please rate high.

1. Why can't transcription and translation of an mRNA occur at the same time in eukaryotes like it does in prokaryotes? In bacteria, translation of an mRNA can begin before its transcription is complete. mRNA synthesis begins at the 5' end and moves toward the 3' end.  After the 5' end is made, ribosomes can bind and begin translation. This coupling of transcription and translation does not occur in eukaryotes. Why not? 2. There is an amino acid that transfers its...

Transcription is the process of RNA synthesis.  Translation is the cytoplasmic process of protein synthesis.  Both processes can be divided into three stages, Initiation, Elongation, and Termination.  For each of the events listed below write which process it occurs in (either transcription or translation) and in which stage the event occurs (initiation, elongation, termination). e. The transfer RNA bringing the new amino acid to be incorporated binds in the amino acyl site.             f. The terminator sequence in the messenger RNA is cleaved and...
