If you place a plant in salt solution at a .10 M and it becomes limp would you say its isotonic or hypertonic?
Answer- hypertonic.
In hypertonic solutions the external cell environment has higher concentration of solutes than the cell . So the cell loses water to become isotonic to external environment. When plant cell loses water in hypertonic environment its called plasmolysis. Loss of water causes the cells to shrink that is why the plant becomes limp.
In isotonic solution no changes occur to the cell as the extracellular concentration= intracellular concentration. Plant would remain normal with no changes.
If this helps please give it a positive rating thank you!
