What major cell structures are instrumental in the survival of bacteria in extreme ?

Answer #1

ANS- Cell membrane is the major structure that helps in the survival of bacteria in an extremely harsh environment.

EXPLANATION-Cell wall is the outer covering of the cell membrane that functions to protect the cell from an extremely harsh environment, such as against the osmotic shock and mechanical stress, the cell wall is made up of cellulose, pectins, hemicellulose, protein, etc. Cell wall is present in plants, algae apart from the protection it has some protein and ion channels which allows the movement of nutrient molecules and ions inside the cell and allows to release outside the waste product of cells through these channels that fulfill the food requirement of the cell for its survival.

  • Cell wall is also present in bacteria which is made up of peptidoglycan.
