Answer #1

5.a.Heroin is considered two to five times stronger than morphine . Heroin is a naturally occuring substances that comes out of the seeds of poppy plants . Heroin users experience a euphoric rush lasting for several hours when taken by the users which will lead to a sleep of more time whereas morphine acts as an anesthetic without decreasing consiousness and is considered to be one of the most powerful analgesics known.

Hence due to the deadly effects of heroin and its impact on the body its more potent than morphine.

b. K+ ions flow increase in cells treated with morphine and they flow towards outside direction . Morphine reduce Ca++ ions flow towards the cell and increase K+ ion movement from the cell ,which leads to shortening of repolarisation time and also the duration of action potential.

1) Heroin is 3, 6-diacetylmorphine. Heroin is 2-3 times more potent than morphine. In vitro and in vivo, to which product does heroin hydrolyze first, (3- or 6-acetylmorphine), and why? Hint: What are the acidic pKa values of the respective hydroxyl products? Look up the structures on the internet or use the UF library online e-journals. 2) Acetylsulfisoxazole, is readily hydrolyzed in vivo to sulfisoxazole. Protein synthesis takes place much more slowly in eukaryotes than in prokaryotes. Which of the following is a reason that this is true? (a) The formation of a peptide bond in prokaryotic ribosomes occurs nearly twice as fast as in eukaryotic ribosomes. (b) Prokaryotes have higher concentrations of charged tRNAs than eukaryotes do.
