Which of the following correctly describe(s) a relationship in fatty acid metabolism?
-Fatty acid oxidation is one part of β-oxidation

-Acetyl-CoA is one type of acyl-CoA.

-Malonyl-CoA is oxidized in fatty acid synthesis

-All of the Above

Homework Answers

Answer #1

The correct answer is Acetyl CoA is one type of Acyl CoA because acetyl CoA has acetic acid whereas in acyl CoA there can be any of the acids. So the acetyl CoA is more specific whereas acyl CoA is a general term.

There are various oxidation of fatty acids amongst which beta oxidation is the most common.

After malonyl CoA synthesis  there is removal of CO2 in condensation step and addition of two carbon to the growing fatty acid chain.Since there is removal of oxygen so it is a reduction.

So the right answer is 2)
