Answer: There are 5 types of bacteria and they have been divided on the basis of their structure:

  • Cocci: They are spherical shaped bacteria.
  • bacilli: They are the rod-shaped bacteria.
  • Spirilla: They are the spiral-shaped bacteria.
  • Vibrios: They are the comma-shaped bacteria.
  • Spirochaetes: They are the corkscrew-shaped bacteria.

Archae or the archaebacteria is a type of single-celled microorganism. They show characteristic like both bacteria and eukaryotes. They have a separate domain and are found in extreme conditions like hydrothermal vents etc. Majority of the extremophiles belong to domain archaea.
