When does transcription occur?
A. mitosis
B. meiosis
C. G1
D. G2
E. S

Answer #1

G2

Transcription is the process of formation of messenger RNA using DNA are a template. It takes place in nucleus of eukaryotes and in cytoplasm of prokaryotes. It occurs only after DNA has undergone DNA replication.

So DNA replication occurs during S phase of cell cycle. After S phase, G2 comes in which transcription and translation will take place.

Gap 1 phase is also a resting phase for the cell but it does not undertake replication, transcription and translation. It increases in its size.

Meiosis is the process by which a diploid cell divides to give rise to for haploid cell. It is also called as reduction division.

Mitosis is the process of formation of two diploid daughter cells from single diploid parent cell.
