how are fossils used to find out how a species evolved?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Fossil refers to any preserved remains of once-living, but now extinct organism. These may include skeletal structures of the being, imprints on stones, genetic remains etc. Fossil records are suggestive evidence for a species evolution, but are never complete proof. Some species can never fossilize. Fossil age is calculated by the method of radiometric dating. The remains or imprints of species found in fossils help relate that species to a historic time era.

Different species found with different time zones, help establish their time lineage.

This frog species evolved from a group that uses primarily auditory signals (songs) to attract mates. It lives near tropical waterfalls, where it can be difficult to hear those signals, and interestingly, has evolved a second signal, “leg-waving.” Develop a study design that might allow you to determine whether the leg-waving serves only to get attention, or if females use male leg-waving to assess mate quality.
