What is parent-offspring conflict from an evolutionary standpoint? What about sibling conflict? Calculate relatedness to support your answer.

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Parent offspring conflict: it was coined in 1974 by Robert Trivers. It describes evolutionary conflict arises from differences in parental investment in an offspring from the standpoint of parent and offspring.

Sibling conflict: it is a type of competition among siblings which may be because of jealousy, fighting and attention from parents.

Relatedness: sibling conflict is due to innocent things but parent offspring conflict may be due to parents divorce, half siblings and no attention and love from parents. So according to me relatedness is not significantly approved.

Sibling IQ Scores (Raw Data, Software Required): There have been numerous studies involving the correlation and differences in IQ's among siblings. Here we consider a small example of such a study. We will test the claim that, on average, older siblings have a higher IQ than their younger sibling. The results are depicted for a sample of 10 siblings in the table below. Test the claim at the 0.05 significance level. You may assume the sample of differences comes from...
