Which inhibitor is most potent; An inhibitor who has IC50=50nM or someone who has IC50=200nM? Also an inhibitor with Ki= 459 μmol/L is storng or weak?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

IC is inhibitory concentration a concentration at which inhibitor effectively act on its target to inhibit it . Inhibitor with IC50= 50nM is more potent as even in low concentration, it has inhibitaory effect as compare to other inhibitor.

Weak

Explanation- Ki is a concentration required of inhibitor to make inhibition to half maximum. it is not strong, Ki( inhibitor constant) value for a inhibitor should be small in nM or in small uM is also acceptable to some extent, a small value reflect more strong affinity and coverage of enzymes for inhibition.
