Answer #1

Small intestine helps in the digestion of food. It receives digestive juices from the pancreas and liver which aids in the process of digestion. There are also intestinal juices which helps in digestion of food here. It accounts for about 90 percent of digestion of food.

Small intestine also helps in absorption of food as its lining contains the fingre like projections made specially for absorption by increasing the surface area.

It also contains the probiotic flora which aids in the immune system. It also has payer's patches which helps in local immunity.

The intestine secretes digestive enzymes like maltase ,peptidases etc

Thus small intestine does digestive, absorptive and immunological functions.
